Taking their win streak to four with an emphatic 5-0 victory over Old Madrid FC, the Islanders FC are seemingly back to their all-conquering best, but still have work to do to catch Virgin Gorda Utd.
Their latest triumph came courtesy of a brace of goals from Sheldon Harry in the 2nd and 45th +1 minute, Oswort Holder in the 42nd and Antonio Rodney in the 90th +1 minute. The fifth goal was an own goal.
“Congratulations to the boys, they played well” commented Coach Fitzroy Daley “It could have been even better if the guys were not rushing the game. We were expected to win and became a little anxious, especially overall our opponents played well, with their keeper making several excellent saves, but eventually the goals settled us down and we can now move on, with hard work, to see how far we can go this season!”
The three points put Islanders onto twenty-three points from eleven games, just a point behind the second placed Wolues FC, who have a game in hand and five points behind the league leading VG Utd.
Sugar Boys FC sit in fourth on seventeen points having dropped more points from a 1-1 draw with Panthers FC. Loic Simon had put the seventh placed Panthers ahead just before the half time break, but Derol Redhead levelled the game in the 60th minute.
“It wasn’t the result we wanted” commented Redhead “both teams had chances to win the game and we are happy to have come away with a point. The season has become a bit rough for us now and we definitely need some of our more experienced players back from injury.”
Meanwhile Stany Francis, Manager / Coach of the Panthers team noted that the point was a step in the right direction as his team looks to climb the table “A game with a lot of missed chances, especially in the first half. The team’s overall fitness has improved significantly. It’s evident by the intensity and splendid performance. The only goal in the first half was scored by Loic Simon who has been in spectacular form. A draw, one point each, we move on to the next with sight on climbing the table. “
Both VG Utd and Sugar Boys FC have been deducted three points by the Disciplinary Committee
