Women programme

Womens Programme

The BVIFA is fully committed to developing the women’s game in the territory. We are giving female players, coaches, referees and officials the opportunity to become actively involved in football. The BVIFA is helping to popularise the game by increasing public awareness as well as overcoming social and cultural obstacles for women. Currently 70% of the BVI’s female players are from Virgin Gorda and consequently we are looking to develop the female participation on Tortola.

The majority of the women’s program is covered in the youth section of the website as, at present, boys and girls up to the age of 16 are playing together in the after school program. However the BVIFA is actively encouraging women to get involved in football and come along to pre-arranged practices for women of all ages.

Womens National Team

Last year the BVI sent a women’s national team (all of whom were under 17) to Haiti to compete in a four team tournament. We were the youngest team on show with our youngest player 12 and eldest 15 for an official women’s tournament. With many inexperienced players the trip was deemed a great success despite the unfavorable results. The BVI lost 23-0 to Haiti, 15-0 to Dominica and 9-0 to Bermuda. Despite the results the team was very upbeat and the coverage the trip received has been instrumental in building a strong foundation for women’s football in the territory.
