Whilst the Wolues FC were romping to a 7-0 win over the Islanders FC, the Sugar Boys FC were going quietly about their business in a 1-0 victory over Panthers FC, which took them two points clear atop the National League standings.
Wolues were indeed top for a few hours after their rout of the Islanders, with Marcus Robinson, James Malley, and Hugo Costa Liziario all scoring twice and Noel Maxwell also on the score sheet.
According to Wolues and National team player, Phil Nelson, the game went according to plan “It was a very nice win. The Islanders had not been beaten coming in and were 1 place above is in the table, so we came in desperate for the 3 points. The game went almost perfectly with the result never really in any doubt. Our aim was to move the ball around and get the ball into our forwards and wingers to create chances. Most pleasing is we are scoring a lot of goals so far this season which is a credit to the whole team.”
Meanwhile, Derol Redhead scored the only goal of the game in the 72nd minute to overcome the Panthers 1-0 and send his team back to the league summit.
“It’s where we want to be and what we are getting accustomed to” Redhead stated “it wasn’t a bad game, the Panthers stopped us playing for long periods and it took something special to break the deadlock. Panthers came to play, did well and made us realize we have a lot of improving to do to stay on top.”
VG United also served notice that they were to be taken seriously in the hunt for the league title this year as they hammered Old Madrid 7-0, on the back of a quadruple effort from Bernard Cumberbatch, a brace from Levon Williams and one from Sheldon Toney.
Rebels FC rounded out the weekend action with a 2-0 win over One Love FC, as Mario Carter found himself on the score sheet twice.
