VG Utd held on to top spot with a 5-0 demolition of Positive FC, whilst the free scoring Wolues FC stayed in close contention with a 9-0 rout of Old Madrid FC as the National League reached the Christmas break.
On sixteen points following their win, courtesy of goals from Jaadon Quashie in the 12th minute, Levon Williams in the 34th, Joel Mars in the 48th and Thomas Albert, who scored a brace in the 72nd and 87th minutes, VG Utd are a solitary point ahead of Wolues.
According to manager, Jermain Abrams, it is exactly where the team wants to be “ we set ourselves a goal and so far are achieving what we set out to do” he noted “The 3 points was also a target for this game, so we achieved that as well and feel good about where we are at. The second half of the season will be much tougher, but we aim to complete our vision. Cudos also must go to coaches Glenn Bascome and Ritchie Morton who have worked hard to get the team to this point.
Wolues though are hot on their tails and are scoring at an average of six goals per game and have the current league top scorer in Hugo Costa Liziario on the books with eleven goals. He scored a hat trick in the win over Old Madrid and further goals came from Phil Nelson, who scored a brace in the 17th minute from the penalty spot and 83rd minute, Marcus Robinson netted in the 43’, James Malley in the 60th, Rush Broderick in the 68th and Noel Maxwell in the 74th.
“It was another comfortable win and a great way to go into the break” commented Nelson “We are scoring lots of goals from lots of different persons which is great, and it is really enjoyable playing with this team right now. Hopefully, we can keep going like this in the new year.”
