The three points, secured in a 5-0 rout of their opponents, was enough to see VG Utd leapfrog Wolues FC and return to the top of the National League after being deducted points pre-Christmas.

“a great feel-good win after the Christmas break, despite all the celebrations over the festive season!” commented Manager Jermain Abrams “overall though the guys were focused, and it was a good solid performance especially with keeping a clean sheet. Th team worked hard from front to back to control the game and the youngsters definitely came to the fore. Jadon Quashie scored a hat trick and kudos also goes to the coaches, Ritchie Morton, and Glen Bascombe, for putting together a game plan that worked so well. Our aim to start the second half strong couldn’t have gone any better and we can now look forward to maintaining our position for the rest of the season.”

The goals came from Quashie with his hat trick in the 2nd, 45th and 84th minutes, whilst Deshawn Richardson also scored in the 71st minute as did Kijuan Nimblett in the 82nd.

The defeat leaves the Panthers on nine points and mid table albeit with a game in hand over the nearest rivals, whilst VG Utd now have sixteen, one more than Wolues.

Islanders are third on eleven points after their 1-1 draw with Sugar Boys, who were also deducted points and are in fourth with ten points.

“Games against Islanders are always nail biting as both sides are well known to each other “commented Derol Redhead who opened the scoring for his team in the 26th minute “the game was well balanced and despite going ahead we were unable to score the all important second that would probably have secured all three points. However, a share of the points against another top team is not a bad thing and we will just look to see how we can improve for our next match.”

Sheldon Harry Junior equalized for Islanders in the 47th minute.

Rebels FC claimed all three points in the other game played over the weekend as they used a late Curtly Peters hattrick to blow open a tight game and beat Positive FC 5-1. He scored in the 74th, 75th and 85th minutes, after Jamal Sergeants 46th minute goal had been cancelled out by Positives Jean Wilhem Jeudy in the 57th.

Kelvin Glasgow was also on the scoresheet.
