The outstanding performers of the recently concluded 2023-24 football season were presented with individual and team trophies at the 2nd annual Media Day and Award Ceremony on Sunday at the A.O. Shirley Ground.
Members of the newly elected FA Executive were also on hand to make the presentations and President, Mr. Avanell Morton, addressed the sizeable crowd that had gathered to witness the proceedings in support of their teams and favorite players.
“our intention is to continue development at our east end venue as we move forward, including the new stand, a fence, a improved lighting system and a new surface” stated Morton “we will have a district league, a youth league a futsal league and of course the men’s and women’s national league- football this year will become a community sport, we will make football different whilst staying as the number one sport in the territory.”
The BDO schools league will get underway on the 16th October, whilst the men’s national league was confirmed to start on the 19th October.
The schools league dates were confirmed by BDO CEO, Mr. Ryan Gelug “the league powers the national league and teams and is a quintessential part of football development and youth wellness. We are excited by the community aspect of this year’s competition, which is how it all started a dozen years ago. “
Sponsors are already coming onboard to support the new vision of schools football, including Oil Nut Bay, who will be supporting Robinson O’Neal Primary school and Yates Associates sponsoring Ciboney Primary School. JTV and 284Media are also stepping up as our Speedy’s Transport.
Loud applause met each recipient as the ceremony got underway, starting with Best male young player, Jadon Quashie, from VG Utd and Chelsie Dyer of the Avengers, who was named Best Young Female player,
Among the top individual awardees was Phil Nelson, who earned the title of Male Most Valuable Player, while T’Kylah Richardson was named Female Most Valuable Player. The Golden Boot Award went to Hugo Lizario, who set a record with twenty-five goals. In the female category, there was a tie for the Golden Boot, with Kyla Flax and Eva Carey both scoring eight goals.
Mekhi Waters was awarded the Male Golden Glove, and Britney Peters the Female Golden Glove title.
Other notable awardees included Jermain May for Referee of the Season, Richie Morton for the Men’s League Coach of the Season, John Riley for the Female League Coach of the Season, Gloria Fahie for the Female League Manager of the Season and Jermain Abrams for Men’s League Manager of the Season.
