Playing in just their second game in the second round of CONCACAF Qualifying for the FIFA World Cup, 2026 the BVI fell to a successive loss, 0 – 4 to the Dominican Republic at the Estadio Panamericano in San Cristobal.

The game got off to the worst possible start for the BVI as they conceded the lead to a well-placed shot in the 2’ with a curved shot by Rafael Mata, and then Dorney Romero converted on a penalty kick opportunity in the 14’ to double the lead for the hosts.

Mata struck again from distance in the 31’ to give the hosts a three-goal lead.

Romero converted his own double in the 90’+3′ to put the exclamation point on the home victory.

“I’m proud of the guys. We put in the work and played two tough teams with a lot of professional players” Captain Troy Caesar commented. “We’re going to regroup and focus on the upcoming games (Jamaica and Dominica in 2025), and we’ll move on from there. A lot of people might not agree with the tactics we use but playing top players, top teams at a top level, with the team we have and the team we are building, I’m pleased with the work we’ve have put in.”

The Dominican Republic improved to three points and maintained third place in the group. Guatemala and Jamaica are first and second in the group with six points each.
