At the end of season trophy presentation for the BDO FA Primary and High School leagues, the title sponsors, BDO re-confirmed their intention to continue their involvement, which is now heading into its 12th year.
Whilst still rebuilding since the Pandemic years, the FA confirmed fifty-seven teams took part in the 2023 / 24 season and that number is set to increase when the 2024 / 25 season kicks off in September this year.
At the awards ceremony, Ryan Geluk, Managing Director of BDO (BVI) made note “it’s always a pleasure to be involved in this programme, especially when we see the success of those who have taken part that have gone onto represent the national team, but also those who have just gone onto be successful in life. We will be back as sponsors next season and for many years to come.”
The programme, the BDO FA Primary and High School League, is the biggest sporting event in the Territory according to Coach Casandra Gregg, who has run the programme since its inception, and she thanked the parents as well as the schools for allowing it to run so smoothly.
BVIFA General Secretary, Mrs. Julianna Luke was on hand as was Interim President, Mr. Aubrey Liburd and Vice President, Mr. Avanell Morton. “We have not been perfect yet” commented Mrs. Luke “but with the continued support of you the parents we will get there. Coach Gregg has been the cornerstone of the programme and I don’t know how she does it, but she does. Coach Mark, Manley and Demming are also on hand to help out as well as the team of volunteers who make sure the teams are ready and get to the venues. We will keep on jumping hurdles to make the programme better and we should also thank the Department of Education who let us go into the schools to conduct sessions in preparation for the league.”
Luke also mentioned this coming season would be even bigger and she urged all the youths to stay in football, or if not football something that keeps them active and healthy.
